Retired U.S. Coast Guard Rear Adm. Oscar C. ``Gus'' Rohnke, 88, died Nov. 10, 1996.
A native of Jersey City, N.J., Mr. Rohnke came to Manatee County from Bermuda in 1980 and attended Longboat Island Chapel, Longboat Key, Fla. He was a member of American Legion Kirby Stewart Post No. 24, Bradenton, and American Legion Post, Tampa, in Governor's Island, N.Y. He was also a member of the Retired Officers Association.
Survivors include his wife, Doris Reeves Rohnke; three stepdaughters, Barbara Reeves of Pasadena, Calif., Wendy Watkins of Tokyo and Linda Badgley of LaPlata, Md.; sons, Karl E. Rohnke of Townshend, Vt.; stepson, Robert Reeves of Wilton, Conn.; four grandchildren and 10 stepgrandchildren.
Services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 24, 1997, in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., where burial will follow. Memorials can be made to the U.S. Coast Guard Alumni Association, 15 Mohegan Ave., New London, Conn. 06320-4195. Toale Brothers Funeral Home, Bradenton, is in charge.
