Four Brandon Middle School students could be suspended for up to a year after being caught with what is believed to be caffeine pills on campus Monday.
The students, all eighth-graders, will go before a disciplinary committee that will decide what punishment they should receive. The Student Code of Conduct requires that students found in possession of a substance - any prescription or non-prescription drug not authorized as medication - be recommended for a one-year suspension and/or expulsion.
A school division spokesman said Brandon's eighth-grade students had been briefed on the Code of Conduct four times since the beginning of the year. School officials declined to identify the students, one of whom apparently brought the pills to school and gave them to the other three.
