Clyde Maurice Daniels, 29, of the 1000 block of Wolcott Ave. died Friday, Jan. 10, 1997.
Born Nov. 2, 1967, in Suffolk, he began his early education in Hampton University's Montessori School, followed by Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist Elementary School, Southwestern Intermediate and East Suffolk High Night School.
As a teen, he was recognized for excellence in gymnastics and chosen by Suffolk City Parks and Recreation Dept. as assistant instructor in gymnastics for young children at Birdsong Recreation Center. Other sports activities include: The Nuts and Bolts Softball Team; Calvary Seventh-Day Adventist basketball team and league, along with table tennis. He was also a Boy Scout.
In 1982 at age 15, Maurice co-starred as Snoopy in the first student production of ``You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown.'' The same year, he and his cousin, Phillip Cason, both performed in the production, ``The Forum.'' Both productions were presented at the then Palace-Chadwick Theatre, billed ``The Magic Lantern.''
At age 16, he competed in the Michael Jackson Lookalike contest sponsored by WOWI, then owned by Bishop Willis. Currently, he was a member of the rhythm/blues/jazz band, ``The Shades,'' who were awaiting signing three record contracts upon completion of their first CD under production at Teddy Reilly's studio in Virginia Beach.
A truck driver for PST, he completed training as a certified welder at Vo-Tech Institute, completed mechanic training at City Garage and graduated from Shippers Choice Inc. of Virginia Tractor-Trailer School.
He is survived by two daughters, Laresha and Tamesha Daniels, both of Fairfax, Va.; son, Maurice LeRon Daniels of Fairfax; mother, Connie Daniels of Norfolk; father, Clyde Daniels of Suffolk; grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Hardy of Norfolk; an ex-wife, Tammi Daniels of Fairfax; a great-aunt, Minnie Moody of Suffolk; two aunts, Marie Knight of Suffolk, Arnelle Hardy of Silver Spring, Md.; friend, Linda Anderson of Virginia Beach; and a host of cousins, relatives and friends.
The family will receive family and friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today in T.E. Cooke-Twilight Funeral Home. A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home by Pastor Melvin Boone. Viewing will begin there at 2 p.m. today. Family and friends will gather Saturday at the home of Mrs. Minnie Moody, 305 Division St., Suffolk. Burial will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
