A 15-year-old girl was charged with malicious wounding Thursday after she allegedly slashed the face of a 15-year-old male student at an alternative school in Campostella, police said.
The students at Tucker New Start Center were involved in a dispute in the cafeteria about 8 a.m. when the girl used a box cutter to cut the left cheek of a fellow eighth-grader.
Police said the two students were involved in a dispute Wednesday at another location where the victim was assaulted.
The wound required stitches, police said. The teen-ager was treated at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital and released. The girl was taken into custody pending an investigation.
The center, located in the 2300 block of E. Berkley Ave., is attended by 40 to 45 middle and high school students. Tucker is a school for students who have had disciplinary and other problems in a traditional school setting.
