A Wednesday night fire caused heavy damage to a bedroom of an East Durham Street home in Kill Devil Hills. Investigators believe the blaze was accidental, and probably caused by an electrical problem.
Firefighters from Kill Devil Hills, Kitty Hawk, Colington and Nags Head responded to the blaze, which started around 9:30 p.m. A Kill Devil Hills firefighter, 34-year-old Lou Viola Jr., suffered minor injuries. He was treated and released at Outer Banks Medical Center, and returned to work Thursday, department spokesman Glenn Rainey said.
The single-story house, owned by Mark and Fran Winslow of Sunbury, N.C., also suffered severe heat and smoke damage. No one was home at the time of the fire.
