May French ``Frenchie'' Stratton, 85, of the 800 block of First Colonial Road, a resident of First Colonial Inn, died Jan. 16, 1997, in her home.

Mrs. Stratton was born in Bethel, Conn., and graduated from Mount Sinai Nursing School in New York City in 1932. She was a veteran of World War II, where she served as a lieutenant in the Army Nursing Corps in New Caledonia and met and married her husband of more than 50 years, Otney W. Stratton Jr. After raising her two daughters, Mrs. Stratton returned to nursing, retiring from Fairfax Hospital in northern Virginia in 1968. She and her husband enjoyed more than 20 years of active retirement in Sarasota, Fla., before returning to Virginia to be near their family.

She is survived by her husband, Otney W. Stratton Jr.; her daughters and son-in-laws, Diana and Lowell Boaz of Fredericksburg, Va., and Judith and Robert Shay of Virginia Beach; four grandsons, David and Daniel Boaz and Adam and Clark Shay; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the First Colonial Inn, 845 First Colonial Road, Virginia Beach. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the At Home Care Hospice, 3386 Holland Road, Suite 202, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452. H.D. Oliver Funeral Apartments Laskin Road Chapel are handling arrangements.
