A food mart and an apartment in Port Norfolk were heavily damaged by fire Friday night, a fire official said. No one was hurt.
The fire was reported at about 8:20 p.m. at the apartment over Jimmy's Fresh Market in the 300 block of Mt. Vernon Ave.
Firefighters working in the extreme cold had the blaze under control in about 30 minutes. A fire official said it was so cold that after the fire was under control, the hoses used to douse the flames began to freeze as firefighters picked them up.
An investigation was continuing Friday night, and no damage estimate or cause was available.
