Marie Gard Cross, 64, of the 1400 block of Kempsville Road, died Jan. 16, 1997, in a local hospital after a long, courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Manns Harbor, N.C., she was a near lifelong resident of Chesapeake, residing for many years on Kempsville Road. She retired as an executive secretary at Rosso & Mastracco. She was a member of the Norfolk Seventh-day Adventist Church. She had served as secretary of the Sabbath School, a Sabbath School teacher, and on various church committees.
A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, she was predeceased by her parents, Claudia and Will Gard. She is survived by her loving husband of 44 years, Don Cross; three devoted sons, Gary Cross and his wife, Jackie Cross, Donnie Cross and his wife, Ruth, and Barry Cross and his wife, Kim, all of Chesapeake; and her six beloved grandchildren, Ashley, Donnie, Justine Taylor, Brian and Aubrey.
Viewing will begin on Sunday at Oman Funeral Home, Great Bridge. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday in the funeral home and at other times in the home of Barry Cross, 1120 Master's Row, Chesapeake. A funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday in the Norfolk Seventh-day Adventist Church, Kempsville Road, by Pastor Ron Priest. Burial will follow at the Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery.
She will be greatly missed by many other family members and friends and will long be remembered for her sweet and loving nature.
