Earl Gatson Harrell Sr., 73, of Main Street, died Jan. 16, 1997, in Southampton Memorial Hospital.
Mr. Harrell was a native of Jarratt, Va., and was the son of the late Willie and Maude Webb Harrell. He had retired as a correctional officer with the Virginia State Department of Corrections in Capron. Mr. Harrell was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member, deacon and trustee of the Capron Baptist Church and was a member of the Indiantown Hunt Club, the Capron Ruritan Club, the Capron Volunteer Fire and Rescue and the Franklin Moose Lodge.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Leona Dunn Harrell; a daughter, Pam H. King of Ashboro, N.C.; four sons, Earl G. Harrell Jr. of Roanoke, Larry D. Harrell of Midlothian, Dennis B. Harrell of Richmond, Randy D. Harrell of Franklin; five sisters, Bernice H. Vick of Suffolk, Lois H. Barnes of Jarratt, twins, Nellie H. Butler of Carrsville and Helen H. Bales of Memphis, Teresa H. Elliott of Roanoke Rapids; two brothers, David J. Harrell and Horace Harrell, both of Jarratt; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Marjorie Chappell Nurney; two brothers, Garland Harrell and Herman Harrell.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday in Capron Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell Ford and the Rev. Dr. Reginald Warren. Burial will be in Capron Cemetery. the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in Wright Funeral Home, Franklin.
