Oliver Atkins Sr., 86, of Pope Swamp Trail, died Thursday, Jan. 16, 1997, in his residence.
He was a native of Isle of Wight County and retired in 1973 from Newport News Shipbuilding as a welder with 31 years of service. Mr. Atkins was a member of Pine Grove Assembly of God Church.
Survivors include, his wife, Florie B. Atkins, a daughter, Ellen A. Holland of Windsor; four sons, Richard M. Atkins of Smithfield, Jesse A. Atkins of Fairfax, Va., Daniel Atkins of Tucson, Ariz., Oliver Atkins Jr. of Newport News; a sister, Martha A. Slye of Alexandria; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday in Central Hill Baptist Church Cemetery by the Rev. Jerry Sauls and the Rev. Anthony C. Graffam. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today in Colonial Funeral Home and suggests memorials contributions may be made to Pine Grove Assembly of God Church, Parking Lot Fund, 10001 Fire Tower Road, Windsor, Va. 23487.
