RIVERS H. WESCOTT

Rivers Harold Wescott, 76, of the 5700 block of Craneybrook Lane died Jan. 17, 1997, in Maryview Hospital.

Mr. Wescott was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who will be missed by all. He was a native of Southport, N.C., and moved to the Tidewater area in 1952. Mr. Wescott was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and served during World War II in the South Pacific as a first class fireman. He retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers after 20 years of service. Mr. Wescott was instrumental in many tangible saving projects for the U.S. Corps of Army Engineers during his employment with them. He received several awards and citations for his recommendations.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Doris M. Wescott; two daughters, Louise Barnes of Portsmouth and Dorothy Fitch and her husband, Tommy, of Chesapeake; a son, James H. Wescott and his wife, Linda of Portsmouth; a sister, Mary Helen Jordan of Wilmington, N.C.; five granddaughters, Anita Griffin, JoAnne Walker, Alisa Petrauskas, Angie Wescott and April Wescott; two great-grandchildren, Joshua Walker and Christin Griffin and a host of other relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his father and mother, Samuel Earl Wescott and Lydia Anna Wescott; a sister, Minnie Spencer; two brothers, Edward Wescott and Vernon Wescott, all of Southport, N.C.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Monday in Loving Funeral Home by the Rev. Lew Hunter of Sweethaven Baptist Church. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The family and friends will gather today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the funeral home.
