WOMAN GETS WEEKEND JAIL TIME FOR DUI

A judge has sentenced a Seaford woman to 52 weekends in jail for slamming her car into a van carrying young wrestlers last April.

Vickie Jo Smith, 36, pleaded guilty in November to driving under the influence, a misdemeanor that carries up to a year in jail. Court testimony showed her blood-alcohol level was more than three times the legal limit. Eight of the wrestlers were injured in the crash.

Circuit Judge Christopher Hutton sentenced Smith to 12 months in jail but suspended that sentence and imposed the weekend jail time. She is to report to jail on Fridays at 8 p.m. and remain until 8 a.m. on Mondays. She will begin serving her sentence on March 7.
