May Lyttle Darden, 73, of the 1300 block of Maltby Ave., died Friday, Jan. 17, 1997, in Virginia Beach Healthcare Center.
Mrs. Darden was a native of Boykins, Va., and daughter of Henry and Minnie Bogle Lyttle. She was a faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church where she held membership in various organizations, among them the Sunday School, Female Usher Board (NU)1, Missionary Circle and Pastors Aid. She was a member of Order of the Eastern Star, Ada Chapter. She retired from the Norfolk public schools as a dietitian for Jacox school.
She is survived by her devoted husband, Henry L. Darden Sr.; two sisters, Madelin M. Bembry and Cherly Darden-Hayes; two sons, Henry L. Darden Jr. and Luther B. Hall; two sisters, Thelma Turner and Marie Parson; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a daughter-in-law, Annie Ross Darden; and son-in-law, Kenneth Hayes.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Wednesday in Bethel Baptist Church by the Rev. J.E. Arrington Jr. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing will be from 2 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Riddick Funeral Service, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m. The family will be at 2709 Spruce St. at other times.
