CYRUS R. GRAY

Cyrus Rufman Gray, 90, died Jan. 19, 1997, in an Elizabeth City hospital.

Mr. Gray was born in Buxton and was retired from the Coast Guard, having served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was a member of Buxton United Methodist Church, United Methodist Men and the VFW. He was the son of the late Cyrus H. and Mary Quidley Gray and husband of the late Olivia Austin Gray.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary E. Gray of Buxton; three sons, James W. Gray of Buxton, Carroll R. Gray of Slidell, La., and Ronnie L. Gray of Richmond, Va.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Buxton United Methodist Church by the Rev. James Huskins. Burial will follow in Quidley Cemetery. Friends may join the family at Twiford's Island Chapel, Hatteras, from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday.
