Emma Johnson Rountree, 73, of the 900 block of MacArthur Drive, died Jan. 18, 1997, in her residence.
She was born in Nansemond County and retired as a unit sales manager with Stanley Home Products after 33 years. She was a member of Suffolk Christian Church, its Senior Citizens Group, West Memorial Bible Class and Circle (NU)1.
Survivors include her husband, Warren Rountree; two sons, James Warren Rountree of Hot Springs, Ark., and Larry Hugh Rountree of Suffolk; four sisters, Eunice J. McClenny of Franklin, Madeline J. Miller of Knoxville, Tenn., Elizabeth J. Schrom of Florida and Audrey J. Lassiter of Baltimore; a brother, W. Raymond Johnson of Charlotte, N.C.; and a grandchild, Karin Elizabeth Rountree of Houston, Texas. She was predeceased by her parents, Susie Benton Johnson and William Larry Johnson.
A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday in Suffolk Christian Church by the Rev. Thomas Britton and the Rev. Forrest Guthrie. Burial will be in Cypress Chapel Christian Church Cemetery. The family will greet friends at Harrell Funeral Home, Suffolk, from 7 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and other times at the residence. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Suffolk Christian Church Building Fund and/or the Church Van Fund, or Nansemond Suffolk Rescue Squad.
