A 33-year-old man died Sunday when the pickup he was driving ran off a road and into a tree, police said.
The accident happened about 4 p.m. on Indian River Road, about one-third of a mile south of Lynnhaven Parkway and near the Stumpy Lake Golf Course.
Police identified the man as Bruce Harris of the 1700 block of Aquamarine Drive.
Investigators said excessive speed appeared to be a key cause of the crash. It appeared that Harris lost control of the pickup and that it left the highway.
Additionally, he was not wearing a seat belt, police said.
