CAREER TRACK

ACCOUNTING

Patrick M. Barberich, partner with Coopers & Lybrand, was named market managing partner of the Hampton Roads offices. He will lead the Virginia Beach and Newport News offices which have a staff of over 40 people. He has previously held partner positions in both the business assurance and tax departments.

BANKING

Gail A. Melton was promoted to officer at Signet Bank. She is a senior investment associate at the Pembroke office in Virginia Beach. Melton joined Signet in 1985 as a teller and has filled various positions in retail banking including teller supervisor and sales team leader before assuming her current responsibilities.

ENGINEERING

J. Daniel Carrier, professional engineer, was named principal project manager at Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas in Norfolk. He joined the firm in 1984 and specializes in the design, inspection, and management of numerous types of highway and railroad bridges. He was senior project manager.

Also, Kimberly Overton, engineer in training, was named transportation planner for Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade and Douglas. She will assist in the firm's preparation of transportation corridor studies and various planning efforts. Prior to this, she was a traffic engineer for the city and county of San Francisco, Calif.

HEALTH CARE

Dr. Karen M. McGeehan, a family physician with an emphasis in women's health care, has joined the Tidewater Medical Group and Dr. John Clayton Everett at Oceanfront Family Practice. She recently completed a residency in family practice at Eastern Virginia Medical School and Ghent Family Practice.

INVESTMENT SERVICES

C. Randolph Hudgins Jr. was named a senior portfolio manager with Capes Capital Management in Norfolk. He was senior vice president and resident officer with Wheat First Butcher Singer in Norfolk and a portfolio manager with Commonwealth Investment Counsel, its investment advisory affiliate.

LAW

Charles E. Land, a partner with Kaufman & Canoles, was elected vice chairman of the real property section of the Virginia State Bar Association. He is also section chairman for his firm's real estate finance section.

Also, Kaufman & Canoles appointed Holly L. Sides to director of marketing. Prior to this, she was director of marketing for Cox, Kliewer & Co., an architectural firm in Virginia Beach.

MEDIA

Mike Anderson, vice president, international development, at InfiNet, has been named human resources director for The Virginian-Pilot. He will assume his new position on Wednesday. He has also served as vice president, business affairs at InfiNet. During 1990-96, he worked at The Weather Channel and The Travel Channel.

Elizabeth Smith will be joining Landmark Specialty Publications as book marketing director, effective Feb. 1. The specialty book group includes over 26 antique, collectibles and sports titles. Smith will be responsible for the strategic planning and execution of the marketing, sales and promotion of an expanding line of books. She is currently a coach for The Virginian-Pilot, training employees in team management.

David Uhrin was named composing artist and assistant systems manager at VistaGraphics, a Virginia Beach-based publishing and graphics company which publishes 13 different visitors guides. Prior to this, he was a graphic designer and site manager for The Virginian-Pilot.

MORTGAGE

Bill Lane and Noel Smith were named loan officers at George Mason Mortgage, a subsidiary of George Mason Bank. Lane was previously an independent manufacturers representative for 38 companies and corporations in the homebuilding industry. Smith was previously a loan officer for Crossland Mortgage Corp.

David G. Hanson was named a real estate analyst for Atlantic Mortgage & Investment Co.'s Chesapeake office. Prior to this, he worked for a commercial real estate firm in sales and leasing.

Also, the mortgage company's Chesapeake office appointed George D. Vick III to its commercial real estate finance department. Prior to this, he managed the Richmond office of Fleet Real Estate Capital.

REAL ESTATE

April L. Koleszar has joined the retail services division of Robinson Sigma Commercial Real Estate. She will work out of the Norfolk office. She was previously with Goodman Segar Hogan Hoffler.

Richard C. ``Clay'' Culbreth Jr. of Old Dominion Commercial Real Estate was elected president of the Commercial Real Estate Council for 1997. Jonathan Guion of S.L. Nusbaum Realty Co. was named president/elect.

SHIPBUILDING

Patrick A. Tucker was named vice president of government relations at Newport News Shipbuilding. Tucker previously served as executive director of government relations for Tenneco Inc., the former parent company of Newport News Shipbuilding.

TRANSPORTATION

Steven J. Anthony was appointed assistant vice president-public affairs at Norfolk Southern Corp.'s Washington, D.C., office. He was general attorney in the company's law department in Norfolk.

Correction: In the Jan. 6 issue of Business Weekly, Career Track said that Mary Jane Hall had joined the litigation practice group at Mezzullo & McCandlish in Virginia Beach. Hall practices out of the Norfolk office. The firm opened its Virginia Beach office in December.
