Mary Elizabeth Tejada, 73, of the 1900 block of Buttonwood St. died Jan. 18, 1997, in Sentara Leigh Memorial Hospital.
A retired cook, Mrs. Tejada was a Norfolk native and was the widow of Julian Tejada. She was a member of South Norfolk First Presbyterian Church, Chesapeake.
Survivors include five sons, William C. Baker Sr., John W. Baker, Phillip L. Baker, Julian T. Baker, all of Chesapeake, and Simon Tejada of Cuba; mother, Ola V. Early Merritt of Chesapeake; two sisters, Delores Eure of Virginia Beach and Joan Josue of Chesapeake; two brothers, Robert Merritt of Norfolk and Richard Merritt of Chesapeake; 10 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her father, William H. Merritt.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, Norfolk, by the Rev. Jan Davis. The family will be in Francis A. Gay Funeral Home, South Norfolk Chapel, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. today.
