I was inspired by the Jan. 8 letter to the editor, ``Use HOV lanes for light rail.''
HOV lanes are a wonderful concept. Unfortunately, today's independent lifestyle is a direct contradiction to that concept. One early a.m. trip toward the base will certainly verify that fact. The HOV lane is underused.
The HOV authority should offer, for a fee, an HOV decal/plate that would allow a single occupant the HOV lane, waiving the restriction. Potential benefits are increased revenue (road repair and improvement), maximizing the potential of the HOV lane and less congestion in the non-HOV lanes.
Just think, if all the ground dedicated to two HOV lanes had been used for four lanes, two going in opposite directions, I wouldn't have had to write this letter.
