1 DEAD, 1 WOUNDED IN DOUBLE SHOOTING IN NORFOLK 22-YEAR-OLD IS IN SURGERY; 18-YEAR-OLD DIED SHORTLY AFTER REACHING HOSPITAL.

An 18-year-old man died and another man was critically wounded in a double shooting Tuesday night in the Lafayette area of the city.

The shootings occurred about 7 p.m. in the 2100 block of Lafayette Blvd., according to police spokesman Larry Hill.

A 22-year-old was in surgery in critical condition at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital late Tuesday, Hill said. The 18-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after arrival at the hospital.

Neither of the men was identified by police, pending notification of their families.

Details about the shootings were sketchy late Tuesday. Police had no motive, and no suspects were in custody.

One of the men apparently ran into the Tinee Giant in the 2000 block of Lafayette Blvd. and told people inside that he had been shot by a man on a bicycle, according to a clerk at the store.

The two victims did not shoot one another; they were shot by another person, Hill said.
