Dr. Jerry H. Morewitz, has been named chairman of the department of psychiatry and behavioral sciences at Eastern Virginia Medical School. He had been interim vice chairman of the department since 1994 and has been director of geriatric psychiatry at EVMS since 1993.

Morewitz succeeds Robert P. Archer who was interim chairman of the department for three years.

Laurrie Marcotte, a seventh-grader at St. Pius X School and Luther Leacock, a ninth-grader at Rock Church Academy, both residents of Norfolk were named as semi-finalists in the Department of Motor Vehicle's License Plate Design Contest. Only 30 of the 600 entries were named as semi-finalists.
