Robert Fortescue Phillimore, 84, of Warnford, Hampshire, died Wednesday, Jan. 15, 1997.
He retired as a captain after serving more than 20 years in Her Majesty's Royal Navy. He received the Distinguished Service Cross and was awarded a M.B.E. (Member of the British Empire) for service in the North Atlantic during World War II.
Following his career in the Royal Navy, he farmed for 20 years. He was a leader in civic and parish organizations and served as a Justice of the Peace for more than a decade.
He is survived by Rachel, his wife of 57 years; their five children; and 13 grandchildren. Locally, he is survived by his daughter, Prue, and her husband, Michael Salasky, and their children, Julia, Charlotte and Vanessa, all of Norfolk.
