Donald V. Hamby, 81, of the 600 block of Snug Harbor Road, died Jan. 21, 1997, in Edenton.
Born in Rapid City, S.D., he was a retired mechanic and body shop manager for Chrysler Corp. He was a member of Spurgeon Memorial Baptist Church and a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Doris V. Foster Hamby; a daughter, Ann Hartman of Chesapeake; sons, Harold V. Hamby of Hamilton, Ga., Donald D. Hamby of Newport, N.C., Stephen L. Hamby of Texas, Robert K. Hamby of Hertford, William D. Hamby of Wharton, Texas, Jeffrey W. Hamby of Chesapeake; 13 grandchildren including granddaughter, Susan Kinsey of Chesapeake; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Hamby.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Great Bridge Chapel, by Dr. Paul C. Lawson. Burial will be in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home and at other times at 1203 Basswood Court, Chesapeake.
