Roger H. Martin, president of Moravian College in Bethlehem, Pa., has been appointed president of Randolph-Macon College.
Martin will take over at Randolph-Macon on July 1. He will succeed Ladell Payne, who has been president of the Methodist-affiliated school for the last 18 years.
Martin, a scholar in British Methodism, is a former associate dean of the divinity school and lecturer in church history at Harvard University.
Beverley Dalton, chairman of Randolph-Macon's board, said: ``The board was looking for someone who can take what is already a very strong liberal arts college and move it ahead to greater prominence nationally. We believe that Dr. Martin is that person.''
