Mrs. Christabelle Hardison Batts of 850 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., died Monday Jan. 20, 1997, in a local hospital.
She was a member of New Calvary Baptist Church. She served on the usher board and the Hospitality Committee. She was former president of the Chordettes Social and Savings Club. She was a retail clerk in several Norfolk businesses. Born in Windsor, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth Hardison.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, James C. Batts; two sons, Hilton Hardison Sr. of Portsmouth, James A. Batts of Virginia Beach; daughters-in-law, Marie Hardison and Kathryn Johnson-Batts; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Lee Batts and Rose Newby Batts of Portsmouth; and seven grandchildren.
A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. today in New Calvary Baptist Churchby the Rev. G.G. Campbell. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. The body will be placed in the church at 9:30 a.m. today and friends will assemble at Calvary Towers, 850 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., at 10 a.m. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
