Gladys Bates Banks went home to be with the Lord on Monday, Jan. 20, 1997.
She formerly lived in the 2500 block of Ruffin St., Norfolk. During the past three years she was a resident of Shepherd's Way Adult Home and Norfolk Health Care Center. Mrs. Banks was preceded in death by her son, Roger E. Morris, and her parents, Floyd and Daisy Bates. Mrs. Banks was a former member of First Calvary Baptist Church.
She was a loving Christian to her family and friends. She leaves a supportive family to cherish her memory: a daughter and son-in-law, Delores J. Purvis and the Rev. Howard Purvis; three grandchildren, Valerie Foote, Franklin Jordan Jr. and Diane Osborne; seven great-grandchildren, Candace Jordan, Keshon and Tiffanie Foote, Jacqueline, Clennine, Clenon and Eric Osborne; four sisters, Maryland Key, Lois Ferebee and Ruth Snipes of Norfolk, and Lugretha Morgan of Virginia Beach; and many family members and friends.
A homegoing service will be held at Grace Episcopal Church at 3 p.m. Friday. Her body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Friends are asked to join the family at the home of her daughter, 245 E. Dexter St., Chesapeake, for the procession to the church. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Hale Funeral Home is handling arrangements. ILLUSTRATION: Personal photo
