Diva among the books - The Barnes & Noble book store at 1212 Greenbrier Parkway will present mezzo-soprano Ginger Inabinet in recital at 1 p.m., Feb. 2.
The opera singer will perform selections from Handel's high baroque opera masterpiece ``Julius Caesar,'' which will be produced locally by Virginia Opera at the end of the month/beginning of February. Accompanied by a pianist, she will also perform other opera selections.
During the recital two tickets to ``Julius Caesar'' will be given away, courtesy of the Virginia Opera.

Sundaes on Monday - The Therapeutic Division of the Chesapeake Parks and Recreation will hold an Ice Cream Sundae Party for disabled citizens and their families on Monday at the Indian River Community Center, 2250 Old Greenbrier Road. The registration fee is $2 per person.

Little Miss applications - Applications are now being accepted for the 1997 Little Miss Chesapeake Pageant to take place in the spring at a venue to be announced.
The event is open to ages 5-8 and all contestants will be judged on poise, personality and stage appearance.
Part of the pageant's proceeds will be used to benefit a community help project. In the past, the pageant has benefited the Ronald McDonald House, the Children's Hospital of the King's Daughters and needy Chesapeake families.

Mahler himself - Want to hear how Gustav Mahler (1860-1911) actually sounded when he performed on the piano? You can hear it Friday at 12:05 p.m. on the weekly WFOS-FM 88.7 series, ``Katherine Kerr's Keyboard Klassiks.''
Kerr will play selections from the Conifer Classics disc, ``The Kaplan Mahler Edition.'' This recording features Mahler at the keyboard thanks to piano rolls of his performances made in 1905.
The program will include the first movement of the Fifth Symphony and the last movement of the Fourth Symphony which incorporates the song ``Das himmlische Leben.''
