BEWARE: Parking in the downtown area, particularly on High Street, is getting special scrutiny for 10 days ending next Friday.
The police will target downtown workers who park all day in unmetered spaces, sometimes moving their vehicles just slightly to create questions about the tire marks put there by parking monitors.
The crackdown came after Olde Towne Portsmouth Asssociation members met with traffic officers to discuss downtown parking problems.
MOVING: Brutti's Cafe is moving uptown a block - from Dinwiddie to Court Street.
Charles and Cathy Greenhood, who have built a healthy cafe business in a small space at Prison Square, are going to expand to the space vacated by Virginia Stationery.
Before the space was an office supply store, it was a restaurant, Charles Greenhood said.
``We're working in there now,'' he said. ``Maybe we'll be ready to move in May.''
He said the operation will expand to include dinner.
RETIRING: A Cradock institution, Dr. Stanley H. Powell, is retiring.
After 63 years of practice, he's closing his office at 13 Afton Parkway on Feb. 28.
