An Indian summer for a few days last week spurred locals to action. Above, Steve Parson, 22, of Kitty Hawk donned his wet suit and headed for the surf. He bounded over the bulkhead near the Avalon Pier for a quick meeting with the waves. Meanwhile in Wanchese, right, Omie Tillett, 67, right, and his brother, Tony Tillett, 52, changed the scaffolding next to the Sportsman, Captain Omie's charter boat, which they were sprucing up while the weather was warm.
