Phillip Johnson Wells, 62, died Jan. 24, 1997, in a local hospital.
A retired import/export manager for Mediterranean Shipping Co., he was a native of Rocky Mount, N.C., and a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Wells; son, Matthew P. Wells of Portsmouth; sister, Gretta Jean Wells of Portsmouth; brother, George William Wells Jr. of Huntsville, Ala.
A graveside funeral will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Olive Branch Cemetery by the Rev. Robert F. Cofield Jr. and the Rev. Scott Rimer. Visitation will be at the residence, 3509 Winchester Drive, from 3 to 5 p.m. today. Loving Funeral Home, Churchland, is in charge.
