Jean Marie Summerell of the 6600 block of E. Virginia Beach Blvd. died Thursday in Sentara Norfolk General Hosptial after a courageous battle with heart disease. Surrounded by her closest family members she loved so dearly, she peacefully went to her eternal rest Jan. 23, 1997.
Born in 1934, she graduated from South Norfolk High School and worked as a medical assistant for Norfolk doctors until her retirement a few years ago.
She leaves behind a husband and loving companion, Joe; a sister, Shirley Rountree of Virginia Beach; son, Wayne Dextradeur and his wife, Katrina, and their son, Austin Majette of Coconut Creek, Fla.; son, Leon Dextradeur, his wife, Leann, and their son, Dillon, of Virginia Beach; daughter, Tina Nimmo, her husband, Mark, and their daughter, Amanda, of Suffolk.
Since her retirement, she has enjoyed frequent companionship with family, friends and neighbors, but the highlight of her retirement years has been spending time with the little children who loved to visit her - especially her grandchildren, Dillon and Amanda.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach. A graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 29, in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens, 6329 E. Virginia Beach Blvd., Norfolk. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 360 Southport Circle, Virginia Beach, Va. 23452.
