Mary E. ``Mama Leah'' McCoy, 78, of the 2500 block of Piedmont Avenue, died Jan. 22, 1997, in Maryview Hospital, Portsmouth.
A native of Sussex County, Va., Mrs. McCoy was the widow of Frazier McCoy and a member of Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church, Portsmouth, the Life Members Council, the Women's Home and Overseas Missionary Society, the Kitchen Committee, the Stewardess Board and an active member of the Senior Choir.
Survivors include her two daughters, Mary Jones of Atlanta and Dottie Walker of Chesapeake; five sons, Hugo Grant, James McCoy and Winston McCoy, all of Portsmouth, Willie McCoy of Hartford, Conn., and Conrad McCoy of Atlanta; sister, Gracie Demiel of Suffolk; 29 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday in Brighton Rock A.M.E. Zion Church by the Rev. Clifford Barnett. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park, Chesapeake. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home, Portsmouth, will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Monday. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
