LOCAL POLICE ARE SEEKING PUBLIC ASSISTANCE

Local police are seeking public assistance in solving these cases:

NORFOLK

A woman who uses the alias Betty Smith is wanted for forging numerous checks totaling thousands of dollars. She has cashed the checks in Norfolk, Virginia Beach and Chesapeake.

The woman is described as black, 40 to 50 years old, 5 feet 6 and about 180 pounds.

On Dec. 9 just before 3:30 p.m., a Virginia Beach man, 42, was robbed and assaulted while walking to his car in the 3800 block of Granby St.

Investigators have a photograph of the suspect, but they need help identifying him.

He is described as black, 25 to 30 years old, and 5 feet 7.

On Jan. 10, the ABC store in the 100 block of West Ocean View Ave. was robbed.

Two men entered and pretended to be customers. Then, just before the store closed at 9 p.m., they displayed handguns and demanded money. After being given cash, they fled.

The first suspect is described as black, with a dark complexion, 25 years old, 5 feet 6 and 160 pounds. He had short hair and a moustache and was wearing a black leather jacket.

The second suspect is described as black with a dark complexion, 45 years old, 6 feet and 160 pounds. He had short hair, was clean-shaven and was wearing a Navy blue denim jacket with gray sleeves.

VIRGINIA BEACH

On Jan. 13, about 3 a.m., the McDonald's Restaurant on General Booth Boulevard in Strawbridge was set on fire. The blaze caused more than $250,000 in damage.

Investigators are seeking any clues to the identity of the arsonist.

PORTSMOUTH

On Jan. 21, about 11:30 a.m. a Chanello's pizza delivery driver was robbed by two men in the 1400 block of Leckie St.

The men approached the driver, displayed a weapon and demanded money. One of the suspects shocked the driver with a weapon that caused a slight laceration on his cheek.

The first suspect is described as black, 5 feet 5 and 150 pounds. He was wearing a camouflage jacket, dark pants and a knit hat.

The second suspect is described as 5 feet 8 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a white shirt and dark pants.

On Jan. 19, the Burger King restaurant in the 3500 block of Airline Blvd. was robbed.

At 12:30 a.m. a man forced an employee, who was dumping trash, inside the restaurant and demanded money at gunpoint.

The suspect is described as black, 5 feet 6 and 220 pounds. He fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of cash.

HAMPTON

On Jan. 18, the Revco drug store in the 3800 block of Kecoughtan Road in the Wythe section was robbed.

When the clerk opened the cash register, a man reached over the counter and took cash. He was last seen running from the store.

The suspect is described as black with a light complexion, 5 feet 5, with a heavy build. He has freckles, and his eyes are a light color. ILLUSTRATION: Photos
