Laverne Busby Gholson, 94, died Saturday, Jan. 25, 1997.
Born on May 28, 1902, to Will and Laura Busby in Gilmer, Texas, she had been a resident of the Englewood area for one year coming from Chesapeake, where she had resided from 1939-1995. Prior to that she resided in Orange, Texas, from 1921-1933. She was a longtime volunteer in the Chesapeake social service agencies, courts, adult craft classes and the U.S. Navy relief program; she was most devoted to garden clubs in the greater Norfolk area. A loving wife and mother, she was a former member of the Order of Eastern Star and the Chesapeake Avenue United Methodist Church. She was predeceased by her husband, Grover Gholson, in 1962.
Survivors include two daughters, Alice G. Outman of Placida, Betty G. Bayne of Darien, Conn.; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.
Inurnment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Orange. Englewood Community Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
