Albert Nelson Sr., 70, of the 1100 block of Gauntlet Drive, died Jan. 26, 1997, in Sentara Nursing Center, Portsmouth.
He was the owner and operator of Nelson & Sons General Contractors and was a retired boilermaker from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 38 years of service. Born in Charleston, S.C., he was a member, trustee and former church treasurer of First Baptist Church, Camelot, Chesapeake. He was a World War II and U.S. Navy veteran.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Nelson; a daughter, Trucella Nelson-Eaton of Chesapeake; four sons, Albert Nelson Jr., Petral G. Nelson, both of Portsmouth, Steve Bernard Nelson, Phillip R. Nelson, both of Chesapeake; three brothers, John Nelson of Charleston, S.C., Herbert Nelson and the Rev. James Brown, both of Detroit; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday in First Baptist Church, Camelot, Chesapeake, by the Rev. C.W. Cuffee. The body will be shipped to Suburban Funeral Home, Charleston, for interment Saturday. Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Gardens, N. Charleston. Viewing will begin at 2 p.m. today in Corprew Funeral Home. The family will be at the funeral home from 7 to 8 p.m. today.
