Rice M. (Mac) Youell Jr., 75, died Jan. 28, 1997, in a local hospital.
He was a graduate of Virginia Military Institute, class of 1943, and the T.C. Williams School of Law, University of Richmond, 1955.
In World War II and the Korean War, he served as an artillery officer in the Marine Corps. Having made an interservice transfer, he attained the rank of captain in the Navy Judge Advocate General Corps. Prior to his retirement in 1971, he had served in the staff legal officer, COMNAV-Marianas, COMNAV-Phil and Com 10, San Juan, Puerto Rico.
He was a recipient of the Meritorious Service Medal and a member of the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Retired Officers Association.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Belk Youell; son, John Rice Youell; and grandchildren, John Blanton Youell and Katherine Nelson Youell of Chester, Va.; and by son, William Nelson Youell of Orlando, Fla.
A graveside ceremony will be held later at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Cemetery, Lexington, Va. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the VMI Foundation, Virginia Military Insitute, Lexington, Va. 22960.
