John T. Gibbs Sr., 78, of the 1100 block of Clay St., died Jan. 27, 1997, in Maryview Hospital.
A retired meter inspector for Virginia Electric and Power Co., Mr. Gibbs had 37 years of service. He was a Norfolk native and a member and deacon of Campostella Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church, Norfolk, where he worked with Community Service.
Survivors include his wife, Louise R. Gibbs; two daughters, Addie Carpenter of Richmond and Pamula Taylor of Silver Springs, Md.; five sons, John T. Gibbs Jr. and Narrio Gibbs, both of Portsmouth, Warner Gibbs of the Netherlands, Arnold Gibbs and Leo Gibbs, both of Chesapeake; 22 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. He was predeceased by a son, Camillus Gibbs.
A funeral will be conducted at noon Thursday in Campostella Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church, Norfolk, by Pastor Collin Braithwaite. Burial will be in Roosevelt Memorial Park. Viewing at Corprew Funeral Home will begin at noon today. The body will be taken to the church at 11 a.m. Thursday.
