William C. White, 58, of the 3400 block of Sale Drive, died Tuesday, Jan. 28,1997, in his residence.
A native of Elizabeth City, N.C., Mr. White worked for the Virginia Port Authority for 30 years, beginning his career as traffic analyst, and held various marketing positions at the agency, including assistant managing director of marketing, managing director of marketing, director of intermodal services and was currently the national accounts manager. He was honored with the 1996 W. Wright Harrison Award for service to the Virginia Port Authority.
Prior to his service with the Port Authority, he had worked for the Seaboard Railroad for nine years in the traffic department and had served two years in the 720th Military Police Battalion.
Mr. White was a member of Providence Presbyterian Church, Virginia Beach, the Tidewater Motor Truck Association, the Hampton Roads Traffic Club, the Virginia Port Authority Advisory Conference, the Hampton Roads Foreign Commerce Club, of which he served on various committees.
He is survived by his wife, Jean C. White; and daughter, Amy M. White of Virginia Beach; two sons, William Christopher White and Marc G. White, both of Virginia Beach; three sisters, Lucy Lawendowski of South Mills, N.C., Connie McDaniel of Sunbury, N.C., and Margaret Jezard of Weeksville, N.C.
A funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday in Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Kempsville Chapel, Virginia Beach, by the Rev. Kenneth M. Hicks. Burial will follow in Colonial Grove Memorial Park. The family will receive friends in the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to Providence Presbyterian Church, 5497 Providence Road, Virginia Beach, Va. 23464, or to the William C. White Port Scholarship Fund at Old Dominion University; donations to the fund should be made payable to Central Fidelity Bank, 101 E.
