JOSEPH R. HILL SR.

Joseph Roosevelt Hill Sr., of the 600 block of Goff St., died Jan. 28, 1997, in his residence.

Born in Raleigh, N.C., he was the widow of Gladys Hill and a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was a retired material sorter for the Norfolk Naval Base.

Survivors include three daughters, Shirley Turner of Chesapeake, Linda McLean and Theresa Phillips, and foster daughter, Dorothy Davis, all of Norfolk; a son, Joseph R. Hill Jr. of Norfolk; a brother, Eugene White of Norfolk; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild; an uncle, Douglas Smith of Durham, N.C.; and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Garretts Community Full Gospel Baptist Church by the Rev. Johnnie Reid. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Friends may join the family at 2505 Rockcreek Drive, Chesapeake. Graves Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
