DEBORAH L. HERNING

Deborah L. Herning, 43, of the 1000 block of Backwoods Road died Jan. 28, 1997, in a local hospital after a long struggle with cancer.

Mrs. Herning, a retired registered nurse, was born in Mount Forest, Ontario, Canada, and lived in the Tidewater area for six years. She was a member of Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach.

Survivors include her husband, George F. Herning; a daughter, Kyra A. Herning of Virginia Beach; her parents, Raymond and Muriel Cafik of Pickering, Ontario; six brothers, John Cafik of Oshawa, Ontario, Allan Cafik of Whitby, Ontario, Peter Cafik of Tampa Bay, Fla., Tim Cafik of Bethany, Ontario, Paul Cafik of Ottawa, Ontario, Rod Cafik of Pickering; her mother-in-law, Jane Herning of Virginia Beach; and a brother-in-law and his wife, John and Sue Herning of Camden, S.C.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Friday in Saint Gregory the Great Catholic Church, Virginia Beach, by Fr. Paschal Kneip, O.S.B. Burial will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date. A Christian Wake service will be held at 7 p.m. today in Altmeyer Funeral Home, with visitation following until 9 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the American or Canadian Cancer Society.
