Fred L. Aron, 67, passed away peacefully Jan. 28, 1997, in his residence.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Portsmouth and moved to Virginia Beach in June 1996. He was the president and owner of Rogers Clothes, Portsmouth and Chesapeake, for 47 years, until his retirement in 1996. He was the son of the late Max and Hannah Goodman Aron and was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Mirman.
He was a lifelong member of Gomley Chesed Synagogue, Portsmouth, as well as Congregation Beth El in Norfolk. He was a member of B'nai B'rith for many years and was a Boy Scout and a sponsor of Boy Scouts of America. He sponsored many Portsmouth Little League teams, and supported many numerous charities.
Mr. Aron was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School and attended the College of William and Mary. He was a Mason and a member of The Churchland Masonic Lodge No. 276 and Lake Drummond Masonic Lodge 178.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 41 years, Natalie Mandel Aron of Virginia Beach; two daughters, Connie Aron of San Diego, Laurie Aron Slone and her husband Jordan of Norfolk; a sister, Edice Schloss of Norfolk; a brother, Sidney Aron and his wife Freda of Colonial Heights, Va.; his brother-in-law, Louis Mirman of Virginia Beach; and four adored grandchildren, Jacob, Aron, Jesse and Anna Slone; his nieces and nephews, Marcus and Lisa Aron of Gaithersburg, Md., Linda and David Kastriner of Cedarhurst, Long Island, Ina and Marty Leiderman, Jack and Sandi Levi, Fay Mirman and Marc Mirman, Jill and Larry Smith all of Virginia Beach, Andrea and Jeff Taylor of Richmond and Lynn Thornton of Las Vegas, Nev.
A chapel service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today at H.D. Oliver Funeral Apts., Norfolk, by Rabbi Arthur Ruberg and Cantor Jacob Tessler. Burial will be at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will sit shiva at the home of Jordan and Laurie Slone, 624 Botetourt Gardens, Norfolk, Va. Memorial donations may be made to the Hebrew Academy of Tidewater, The Chrysler Museum, The Masonic Home of Virginia or the charity of the donor's choice.
