A meeting to discuss the silting problems of inland waterways has been moved to Strawbridge Elementary School, the city's coastal engineer said Wednesday.
Phill Roehrs, who oversees the city's coastal engineering efforts, said the meeting was originally scheduled for the Princess Anne Recreation Center but had to be moved because of strong interest.
The elementary school is next to the recreation center off General Booth Boulevard at 1400 Ferrell Parkway. The meeting will begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight in the school's cafeteria. The school's address is 2553 Strawbridge Road.
The meeting is open to all but is of particular interest to residents whose homes border Rudee Inlet, Lake Rudee, Lake Wesley, Owl Creek and the Eastern Branch of the Elizabeth River.
``We're moving it because the response to the first two workshops was so popular that we didn't have room at the recreation center to conduct the meeting,'' Roehrs said.
City engineers had to solve a problem with Rudee Inlet that developed last month when sand built up and reduced the channel's depth to unacceptable levels. In some areas, the depth at mean low tide was three feet.
The U.S. Coast Guard posted warnings to mariners to avoid the channel. That warning has now been lifted. The Coast Guard urges mariners to use caution.
