As a Norfolk resident for 11 years, I have frequently endured the inconvenience of driving to Lynnhaven Mall as the shopping opportunities in downtown Norfolk have evaporated. You can imagine my alarm when, reading your Jan. 23 MetroNews, I learned of the recent spate of criminal activity in the Magic Hollow section of Virginia Beach, a neighborhood adjacent to the above-mentioned retail destination.
I'm sure I speak for many Norfolk residents who welcome the future prospect of shopping at the MacArthur Center in a safe, revitalized, downtown shopping district. Soon, I will be able to forgo the endless traffic and the need to traverse dangerous neighborhoods to reach a suburban mall.
