The lawyer handling Paula Jones' sexual harassment lawsuit against President Clinton was allowed Friday to cut ties with another client who has accused him of sexual misconduct.
``Clearly, this relationship is fractured,'' County Circuit Judge Martin Clark said in granting Gilbert Davis' motion to withdraw as the attorney for Ramona Hines.
In court, Hines said she wanted to keep Davis because her breach of contract case goes to court in two months and she might not have enough time to hire another lawyer. She is suing a Martinsville television station that fired her as a saleswoman.
After seeing Davis talk about the Paula Jones case on television, Hines released portions of a videotape she said was made two years earlier showing Davis joking with her about doffing her clothes for a photo session with Playboy magazine.
Hines said she released the tape because she felt sexually harassed by Davis and believed his comments criticizing Clinton were hypocritical.
Davis, who is running for Virginia attorney general, said Hines' charges were false and accused her of making the charges to gain publicity for herself. ILLUSTRATION: Photo
