Three men suspected of murdering a Norfolk woman, shot to death while sitting in her house in December, were arrested Thursday night, police spokesman Larry Hill said.
The shooting occurred Dec. 18 at an apartment in the 400 block of W. 26th Street in Park Place. The victim, 43-year-old Charlotte Mason, was hit several times after at least 14 bullets struck the house. She later died at a hospital.
Arrested in the slaying were: Christopher Painter, 20, of the 2200 block of Cromwell Road; Calvin Thrower, 30, of the 300 block of Dorwin Drive; and Demetrius M. Daye, 23, of the 2400 block of E. Princess Anne Road.
All three men were charged with murder and using a firearm in a felony. They were arrested by homicide detectives R.G. Ford, D.R. Norrell and S.F. Halverson.
Mason's death came four months after her 15-year-old daughter, LaToya, was killed by a hit-and-run driver as she carried a baby across a street.
Charlotte Mason's husband, Larry, said she was in a bedroom facing the front of the home when bullets peppered the house. Three children were in the room with her, he said. They were not injured.
The motive for the shooting is undetermined, Hill said. Police did not say whether Mason appeared to be the intended target.
