LELAND D. WHITELOCK SR.

Leland D. Whitelock Sr., 89, of Clearwater, Fla., and Norfolk, died Jan. 31, 1997, at his residence.

Mr. Whitelock was born in Petersburg, Ind., and retired in 1974 from the Department of the Navy as an electronics engineer after 33 years. He was a member of Bethesda United Methodist Church and was an active member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers. A graduate of Carnegie Institute of Technology, he also attended Perdue University. He was a pioneer in the research and development of television, computers and trained communications. He held several patents in these areas.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy L. Whitelock of Clearwater; three sons, Dr. Leland D. Whitelock Jr., M.D., and wife, Victoria, of Norfolk, Tom Whitelock of Germantown, Md., and Robert Whitelock and wife, Nina, of Naperville, Ill.; a brother, Herbert E. Whitelock and wife, Nancy, of Columbia, Md.; grandchildren, Elizabeth Greer, Lillianne Troeger, Susan Bennett, Robert B. Whitelock and Jill Whitelock; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home, Tidewater Drive Chapel, by Dr. Jerry O. Campbell. Entombment will be in Woodlawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
