LUTHER C. PARKS

Luther Clark Parks, 73, of the 200 block of Robin Lane, died Sunday, Feb. 2, 1997, in Chowan Hospital.

A native of Chowan County, Mr. Parks was a son of the late Levy Calvin and Lillie Belle Saunders Parks and the husband of the late Emily Shaw Parks.

Mr. Parks had served on the Edenton Fire Department for 42 years with 12 of those years as fire chief. He was employed with Albemarle Motor Co. for 28 years.

Mr. Parks was a member of the Edenton Baptist Church, where he was active as a deacon and served on numerous committees. Well-known for his civic involvement, Mr. Parks was past president of the Edenton Jaycees, where he received the Distinguished Service Award. He had been recognized as Volunteer of the Year by the Edenton-Chowan Chamber of Commerce. Mr. Parks was also known as the conductor of the Park's Express, the little red train associated with the Edenton-Chowan Optimist Club. He served on the Edenton Town Council and as mayor pro tempore.

Mr. Parks is survived by three sons, David C. Parks of Greensboro, N.C., Larry C. and wife, Sue Parks, of Winston-Salem, N.C., and Jerry L. and wife, Karen Parks, of Edenton; sister, Myrtle P. Webb of Edenton; brother, J.C. and wife, Illa Pearl Parks of Edenton and four grandchildren, Jerry, Robby, Amy and Rachel.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Edenton Baptist Church by Dr. Kenneth Word. Burial will follow in Beaver Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at Evans Funeral Home, Edenton. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, Chowan County Chapter, P.O.
