WRECK WITNESSES SOUGHT

Police are looking for witnesses to a two-vehicle accident in Pungo last week that left three people injured, including a woman who remains in intensive care at a hospital.

The accident happened Wednesday at 7:50 p.m. in the 1400 block of Princess Anne Road just south of West Neck Road. A 1989 Toyota sedan being driven by Diana L. Mills, 32, was traveling south on Princess Anne when it struck two logs that apparently had fallen from a large truck and were lying in the middle of the road. One log became lodged under the car, causing Mills to lose control of the car.

The Toyota crossed over the center line and into oncoming traffic, hitting a 1982 Ford pickup truck head-on. Mills, of the 1800 block of Gum Ridge Road, was seriously injured and is in intensive care at Virginia Beach General Hospital.

Also injured were the driver of the pickup, 49-year-old John Beary, and a passenger, Lewis Whitehurst.

Police are trying to learn the identity of the driver of the truck that carried the logs and how long the logs were in the road.

They are asking any witnesses to the accident or anyone who may have traveled in that area to call 427-4606.
