M. Joyce Barkley Wallin, of Greene Mountain Lake, died Monday Feb. 3, 1997, in the University of Virginia Medical Center, Charlottesville.
She was born in Amsterdam, N.Y., on Sept. 6, 1923, to Danforth C. Barkley and Mary Baker Barkley, who preceded her. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Mary Barkley Shuttleworth.
She is survived by her husband, Joseph L. Wallin; a daughter, Margaret Wallin Dowling and her husband, Richard of Midlothian, Va.; a daughter, Debra Wallin LaMori of Charlottesville; a son, Jay B. Wallin and his wife, Wanda and children, Jack and Matthew of Williamsburg; a son, Timothy J. Wallin of Alexandria, Va.; a daughter, Mary Wallin Prochnow and her husband, David and children, Sara and Joseph of Reston, Va.; a sister, Eleanor Barkley Lang of Amsterdam, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
She was a graduate of St. Mary's Institute, Amsterdam, N.Y., and Miss Bennett's of Springfield, Mass. She had previously resided in Amsterdam, N.Y., Springfield, Mass., Scotia, N.Y., Charlotte, N.C., Endicott, N.Y., Phoenix, Ariz., and Chesapeake. She was active in several civic and charitable organizations: Red Cross, St. Mary's Hospital Auxiliary, Oasis Charities, Girl Scouts, HeadStart and United Way. She was a member of Shepherd of the Hills Catholic Church, Quinque, Va.
The family will be receiving visitors at Ryan Funeral Home, Quinque, from 7 to 9 p.m. today. The funeral will take place at 1 p.m. Thursday in Ryan Funeral Chapel with burial at Monticello Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests remembrances be made to the Greene County Rescue Squad of Stanardsville. Their dedication and kindness to their community is beyond expression. Thanks to them our lives are immeasurably improved.
