HARRY N. GARBIS

Harry Nicholas Garbis, 71, went home to be with the Lord Monday, Feb. 3, 1997. He was a native of Washington, D.C., and was the loving and devoted husband of Barbara Sisson Garbis and a loving father and grandfather.

In 1976, he retired from the U.S. Customs Service in Norfolk after 21 years. In 1989, he retired as an administrative assistant to the sheriff in the city of Virginia Beach after 12 years. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach; past president of the Virginia Beach Ruritan Club; the Virginia Beach Fraternal Order of Police; on the founding board of the Virginia Beach Healthcare Center; and at present, was the volunteer coordinator for the City of Virginia Beach.

In addition to his loving wife, Barbara, he is survived by his son, Glenn N. Garbis and his wife, Nancy; daughter, Karen M. Lindvall and her husband, Terry; and his two grandchildren, Christopher Lindvall and Caroline Lindvall, all of Virginia Beach.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in First Presbyterian Church of Virginia Beach by the Rev. Georgianna Johnson. Burial will follow in Eastern Shore Chapel Cemetery, Laskin Road. The family will receive friends in the Maestas Funeral Home, Baltic Avenue Chapel, from 7 to 8 p.m. today. Memorial donations may be made to the First Presbyterian Church, 300 36th St., Virginia Beach, Va. 23451.
